After the nano brows treatment, you need to pay some special attention to the treated area in order to ensure the best possible results and to prevent infection. Your brows need to heal, and in order to protect them, follow the aftercare routine your artist prescribes.

The aftercare routine is not that complicated. It comes down to keeping the area clean and moisturized, but you need to stick to the schedule.

Here’s a guide through universal nanoblading aftercare.

How Long Does Nanoblading Aftercare Last?

You need to keep up with the nano brows aftercare routine for 14 days.

By this time, the micro-wounds made during the treatment will close up and there won’t be any risk of infection. Your brows will need a few more weeks to heal completely, but once the flaking ends, your results are more or less safe – the pigments can’t be pulled out anymore – and you don’t need to pay so much attention to them.

The Basic Rules of Nanoblading Aftercare

In terms of aftercare nanoblading is not very demanding, but you do need to follow the instructions as closely as possible. Otherwise, you risk ruining the results of the treatment and developing an infection.

Here are the basic rules:

  • Be careful when washing your face.
  • Avoid getting chemicals on your brows. Clean the area with a damp cotton pad, then dry it gently, with a clean tissue. Blot, never rub.
  • You will probably be prescribed an aftercare balm or ointment. Apply it after cleaning your brows, or more frequently if advised.
  • Don’t get your usual skincare on the brow area. Certain skincare ingredients accelerate PMU fading, especially during healing.
  • No makeup in the area for at least 2 weeks. It may cause irritation or infection.
  • No touching your brows.
  • No picking the scabs.
  • No sleeping on your face.
  • Avoid activities that can cause excessive sweating.
  • Avoid long hot showers, saunas and swimming.
  • Avoid sunlight exposure and tanning.
  • Avoid facial treatments till the brows are fully healed.

Extra Tip: Exposing PMU results to sunlight in long stretches of time causes a chemical reaction between sun radiation and PMU pigments that fades them. Wear SPF when you go outside, no matter how old your nano brows are.

Things to avoid after permanent makeup procedure.

Dry Healing Nanoblading Aftercare

The aftercare routine described above is the so-called wet healing, which implies keeping the brows moisturized with an ointment. There’s also alternative, dry healing, which excludes moisturization. It’s sometimes prescribed to clients whose skin is particularly oily, but it’s not so popular anymore, since it causes more extreme scabbing.

Listen to your artist. The routine described above is a general one, and your artist can adapt it to the needs of your skin.

How Long After Nanoblading Can I Wash My Face?

Here’s the thing – there’s a difference between cleaning your brows and washing them.

You need to clean your brows the very same day. This is done with a cotton pad dampened very slightly with sterile water. You shouldn’t get your brows too wet, and you need to dry them as soon as possible by blotting. This is how you should clean the area until day 3.

From day 3, you can wash your whole face and it’s not a problem if you get the brow area wet. That said, no harsh chemicals should come in contact with your brows. Use a mild antibacterial soap – it’s best to get a recommendation from your artist. Don’t rub them. Dry your brows as soon as possible after washing.

Once the peeling ends, you can relax a bit. Wash your face as usual, but try to avoid products that contain exfoliants, as they fade PMU pigments.

How Do I Maintain My Nano Brows Once They’re Healed?

The first bit of maintenance you need to do is get the 6-8 week touch up. After that, you’ll go through another healing cycle, but it will be less intense. You’ll have to repeat the nano brow aftercare routine, but after that, you’re set for up to 2.5 years.

Since they’re semi-permanent, your nano brows will start fading after about 12-18 months, but you don’t have to get them touched up until you feel the need to. Most clients like to get touch ups once a year.

The pace of nanoblading fading depends on factors like:

  • Body chemistry
  • Sunlight exposure
  • Frequent exposure to salt or pool water
  • Frequent sweating
  • Smoking
  • Skincare products

Some of these factors you can control, so make sure you do what you can to prevent premature fading if you want to make the most of the treatment. Part of this is following the nanoblading aftercare which enables pigments to settle properly.

Once you notice your brows have faded significantly, book a touch up as soon as possible. The more you wait, the more they’ll fade, and the artist will have to do more work, so they’ll charge more – up to the full price.

What If I Mess Up My Nanoblading?

If you don’t touch the area while it’s healing, you can’t mess it up. Your brows will be itchy, but don’t scratch them. The pigment is injected shallow into the skin and you can pull it out if you pick the scabs.

If that does happen, contact your artist. It can probably be corrected at the 6-8 week touch up.

In case of infection (which shouldn’t happen if you are careful not to touch your brows), visit a dermatologist. They might prescribe some antibiotics.

Nanoblading Aftercare – Main Takeaways

Nanoblading aftercare is quite simple. It comes down to keeping your brows clean, and moisturizing them regularly if advised. You need to keep up this routine until your brows have stopped peeling. After that, you can relax and go back to your normal routine, but keep avoiding certain harsh chemicals and exfoliants – they can fade your brows prematurely.
