What is Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent makeup treatment. It is similar to eyebrow tattooing, although it is not permanent and the technique itself is far more advanced. It is done manually, with a small blade consisting of 10-12 tiny needles.

The pigment is inserted into the hair stroke alike scratches created with needles, making them look like eyebrow hairs. The result is natural-looking eyebrows that usually last 2-3 years. Some touch ups might be required as well, in order to keep the results of the treatment as fresh as possible.

How Much Does Microblading Cost in the USA?

The average price of microblading in the United States is $400, but it can vary from $200 to $1000.

According to the list of the average cost of microblading, it is obvious that Illinois and New York have lower prices, while microblading is the most expensive in Arizona.

What’s Included in the Price?

The microblading procedure consists of two visits. The first one is the microblading treatment itself. This is usually 2-3 hours long. The first part of it includes consultations with the esthetician, who helps you decide on the shape and pigment of your microbladed brows. Once you are satisfied with the choice, the microblading process is done. You will also be given instructions for the aftercare.

The other visit is the first follow-up treatment, which is supposed to be done 6 weeks after the initial treatment. Its purpose is to correct some imperfections after the healing period is finished. If your skin didn’t take the pigment in some spots, or you want some small corrections to be done, that’s what this touch up is for.

Are Touch-Ups Included in the Price?

The first touch-up is usually included in the price, since it is an important part of the treatment. Without the first touch up, the whole process might be considered unfinished. On the other hand, there are those salons that charge for the first touch up separately, but they usually emphasize that. If they charge it separately, it is usually around $100.

Other touch ups are usually not included in the price. Their purpose is to prolong the durability of your microbladed eyebrows. So, if you want your microbladed brows to last longer, expect to pay some additional money. The longer the period between the initial treatment and the touch up is, the higher the price goes. This is because eyebrows fade as the time goes by, so more additional microblading needs to be done.

Will My Skin Type Affect the Price of Microblading?

It is well-known among microblading artists that people with dry skin make better candidates for microblading than those with oily skin. However, the price of the initial treatment is the same for everyone. Yet, microbladed eyebrows will fade away faster if you have oily skin and they will require more frequent touch ups, which are not included in the price. Consequently, you will spend more money on touch ups if you have oily skin and want your eyebrows to last longer.

Another factor you should take into consideration is your lifestyle. If you work out a lot, or go swimming very often or do similar activities that involve sweating, that will affect the speed of fading of your eyebrows. That is another reason why you might need to schedule more appointments that will add up to a higher cost.

What Does the Price of Microblading Depend On?

There are many factors that affect the price of microblading. Here are the most prominent ones:

Artist’s certification

First of all, it is good to know that not all the artists are certified. In some US states, you don’t have to obtain a certificate in order to become a microblading artist, and there are always amateur, self-taught artists who work illegally.

However, those who have obtained one are naturally more expensive. Not only do they have a proof that they have finished all the steps in learning how to microblade, but the customers trust them more. They usually have a well-known academy standing behind them which guarantees that they are capable of performing this job.

Artist’s experience

Then, there is the artist’s experience. If an artist has done a lot of microblading eyebrows, the chances of them making a mistake or doing a job poorly are low. Therefore, an artist who has had a lot of clients and a lot of microblading before and after pictures to brag with, will probably have higher prices.

The more skillful the artist is, the more popular they are. And when someone’s services are in high demand, their prices also go up. Therefore, the reputation of the artist plays an important role as well.

Tools and equipment

Another thing that affects the price are the materials the artist uses. Some equipment and pigments are more high-quality and therefore more expensive than the others. It also means that your microbladed eyebrows will last longer and be better.

However, the more the artist invests in the materials, the higher is the cost of the service.

Location is also a significant aspect here. Smaller towns normally have lower prices, and in bigger cities, where the rent for a salon is higher, the prices must of the services must be higher as well.

Also, the competition in the area is important when it comes to the cost of microblading. If there are many salons which provide the service of microblading, it is more likely that the prices will not be too high.

Is Getting My Eyebrows Tattooed Cheaper than Microblading?

Having your eyebrows tattooed is cheaper, since the average price of the treatment is $300-$500. The price of the follow up is approximately the same ($100-$200). However, tattooed eyebrows last much longer, while microbladed eyebrows are semi-permanent.

Tattooed eyebrows are said to be permanent, but the truth is, the color starts fading after about 5 years. However, with periodical touch ups, they can last up to 10 years, while microbladed eyebrows, with regular touch ups, last up to 3 years.

So, the question is: doesn’t it pay off more if you get your eyebrows tattooed rather than microbladed?

Well, yes and no. Microbladed eyebrows have more advantages than tattooed eyebrows. First of all, they look more trendy and natural. Microblading gives your eyebrows the illusion of natural thickness, while tattooed eyebrows are just a block of color. They look unnatural and outdated. Secondly, it is easier to correct microbladed eyebrows if something goes wrong or you just don’t like them.  Also, if after some time you want to change the size and shape of your eyebrows, it is easier if your eyebrows are microbladed.

Another thing that should be mentioned here is the amount of pain you feel during the treatment. Tattooing is much more painful than microblading, since it goes deeper into the skin.

After comparing these two techniques, it can be concluded that tattooing might sound cheaper, but microblading is definitely a better investment.

How Do I Choose the Salon Based on the Price?

Microblading is not cheap, so you naturally want to spend your money wisely. First of all, you should find out what is the average cost of microblading in your area. Make a list of all the salons near you and find their price lists. Then compare them.

Microblading is not a small investment and it is also something that you are stuck with for at least a year. Even if you decide to get them faded or removed, you’ll have to live with them for a while.  Bear in mind that low price usually means low quality. Therefore, opt for something in the middle. The best option is to pay the average price of $500 dollars.

On the other hand, if you want to be sure that your artist will provide an excellent service and works with best materials, be ready to pay more. Sometimes you pay for the brand and well-established academies and salons have higher prices. Also, certified artists usually charge more than those who are not.

If you really want your eyebrows microbladed, but you cannot afford an expensive artist, there are still those who have lower prices due to the location or the competition.

PMUHub tip: Check the salon carefully before you make your final decision. Some of them might be beginners and you don’t want them to practice on your face. Ask to see pictures of their previous works, and you can always book a consultation appointment.

Does Microblading Pay Off?

It is a small investment comparing to what you get. Investing in your eyebrows might not save you a lot of money, since it is obviously cheaper to buy an eyebrow pencil. However, it will save you time you spend every morning on doing your brows and trying to make them look even and natural.

After microblading, you will always have that makeup look.

Also, your brows will look picture perfect even after a workout or a swim. You don’t have to worry that they will come off, or worse, get smudged all over your face. In addition, your eyebrows will look natural, which is very trendy at the moment.

Finally, it will definitely boost your confidence since many women tend to feel insecure due to a badly shaped brows, or don’t have eyebrows at all due to certain conditions. And let’s be honest, that is priceless.

Check out our list of pros and cons of permanent makeup and decide whether getting microblading is a good investment for you.

Note: It depends a lot on your lifestyle and beauty routine whether your eyebrows will pay off or not. If you follow the aftercare tips given by your artist, your eyebrows will last longer. If you skip touch ups and neglect your eyebrows, you are soon back to square one and everything was just a waste of money.

For some people, the price of microblading plays a significant role in choosing a salon and an artist. Eyebrows are an important part of a person’s face, and since microblading is semi-permanent, this is not the time to be frugal. That is why a serious research should be done and prices of nearby salons should be compared.

You should not let the price be more important than the skillfulness and experience of the artist or other factors mentioned above.
