The definition of fabulous brows has been the same for quite a few years now – thick, lush, perfectly imperfect – but there’s always room for experimantation and creativity! After all, that’s the whole point of makeup. 2020 has just begun and (permanent) makeup artists have already come up with fresh brow trends.

From lamination to high definition, here are top 2020 brow trends and techniques to try out. New year, new brows!

Brow lamination

Brow lamination technically emerged in 2019, but it has really become popular in the past month or so. In fact, the sales of brow lamination treatments have been insane this year so far. So what’s so great about it? Well, brow lamination basically gives you the results of microblading without actually getting microbladed.

The artist uses a combination of chemicals and setting lotions to lift individual eyebrow hairs, adjusting the shape of the arch along the way and tinting them if the client wants them tinted. The results are fluffy, voluminous eyebrows without the needles. Sadly, they only last 6 to 8 weeks.

The shadow effect

In 2020, it’s all about dimension. Microshading on its own and in combination with other permanent makeup for eyebrows, predominantly microblading, is very popular at the moment. The shadow effect is achieved by injecting the pigment in tiny dots rather than strokes. It adds to the volume and thickness of the arch without looking like a block of color. The artist controls and adjusts the saturation for a natural, subtle result.

If you’re considering getting microblading in the next few months, don’t shy away from an additional shadow! Or, at least, try applying some powdery product over your microbladed arches.

Soap brows

Here’s a DIY idea! Celebrity makeup artists have been using soap, yes, plain old soap, to give their clients fluffy, fabulously messy arches that resemble the results of the BreezyBrows treatment.

The best thing about this look is the fact that it can be achieved using only a bar of clear soap and a spoolie brush. Get the brush wet, get some soap on it, and brush the brows upwards. The soap will hold the hairs in this position for a lot longer than a brow gel.

Nanoblading

Nanoblading, or nano-needling, is emerging as a more subtle and elegant version of microblading. The process is more or less the same: the artist drags the needle through the skin in order to inject pigment in hair-like strokes that blend with the natural hairs. The difference is, with nanoblading, the thinnest needle on the market is used – the so-called nanoneedle.

Nanoblading is the perfect option for clients whose natural hairs are very light, because thick strokes of microblading can look out of place and unnatural. It’s also a good option for the reconstruction of the entire arch for clients who want subtle results.

Another plus, the healing process is much quicker, as the skin is damaged a lot less with a nanoneedle.

Dewy brows

Dewy brows could easily turn out to be the one of the biggest eyebrow trends in 2020. The glossy makeup trend can be worn on any part of the face for a straight-off-the-runway look. Dewy foundations have been around for a while, but in 2020, it’s not only the lips that are getting glossed: the wet look can be worn on the eyes, cheeks, hair, and eyebrows are no exception.

Dewy, wet-looking brows are achieved by using a wax-based pencil to fill in and modify the arch and then covering the arch with clear setting gel. But for an extra glossy look, why not try a clear lip gloss? Just make sure the texture isn’t too sticky.

HD brows

The HD brows is a 7-step eyebrow styling treatment likely to become very popular in 2020. This is a combination of shaping and tinting that gives a custom look. Although this is not technically permanent makeup, the results of this treatment last up to 6 weeks.

So what are the 7 steps?

The session lasts for about 45 minutes and begins with face mapping. The trained eye considers all the facial features and outlines the best possible shape of the arches. Then the actual procedure starts. The first step is tinting, which gives the brows thickness and volume by darkening all the invisible baby hairs. Next up are waxing, which gives the rough outline, threading, which gives sharp and neat edges, and tweezing, for any stray hairs that might have survived. And to finish you off, the artist will give your brows the final touch of makeup and some advice on how to maintain the results for as long as possible. The full package!
