Booking a lash extension appointment for the first time is very exciting, and you probably have loads of questions to ask your lash technician such as which style, length, and type of lashes there are and which ones would be the best choice for you.

But some questions you just don’t want to ask them directly, such as, should I tip my lash tech and how much to tip for eyelash extensions?

That’s why PMUHub is here to help you with all of those questions you can’t really ask but need answers to!

Let’s dig into what are the common practices in tipping when it comes to PMU services.

Do You Tip Lash Technicians in General?

When it comes to treatments in the beauty industry, whether you are getting a hairstyle, a manicure, or lash extensions, it’s important to note that there are no set rules to whether you should tip or not and how much you should tip.

Of course, lash extensions are not cheap, and you might feel like there’s no need to give a tip for a service you’ve already paid a few hundred dollars for.

But that’s why you should know whether the price you are paying is a general price for this service, or if your lash tech is charging below that.

It often happens that beginners who don’t yet have the recognition or loyal customers who come after each session, charge below their value to attract more people.

So keep in mind that the price isn’t always a reflection of their work, but sometimes of their current circumstances.

That’s why if you feel really happy with their service, you will recognize that it is worth more than what they are charging, and you are welcome to give a tip as a sign of gratitude and satisfaction with their work.

Finally, it all comes down to how satisfied you are with their services, and if you are, a tip would be a great way to express your satisfaction to your lash tech as well as a good encouragement for them, especially if they just started working.

So know that although a tip is not expected from you, it is always greatly appreciated.

How Much Should You Tip for Eyelash Extensions?

So now that you’ve decided you want to tip your lash tech, the next question is, how much to tip for eyelash extensions?

Tipping in the beauty industry is pretty much the same as in other industries. The general rule is 10-20% of the price of the service.

The tip should be proportional to the service price (see here our detailed guide on average eyelash extensions price).

Since you likely won’t tip at all if you’re not satisfied with the service, if you are really in love with the result, you might feel comfortable giving a higher tip.

Here are some numbers to put things in context and help you decide how much to tip for lash extensions:

  • If your lash artist charges less than the average $150, you can tip anywhere from $15 to $30, though if you are happy with the result, you might feel comfortable setting your tip higher than that.
  • If your lash artist charges an average of $200, you can tip anywhere
    from $20 to $40.
  • If your lash artist charges above average of $300, you can tip anywhere
    from $30 to $60.

How Much Should You Tip for a Lash Fill?

Lash fills are typically done every two to three weeks. Depending on how well you take care of your eyelash extensions and the skincare products you use, they may even last you up to 4 weeks (learn more about lash fills here).

However, keep in mind the majority of lash artists will insist that you have at least 40% of your original set of extensions left over for the fill; otherwise, it will be considered a full set.

So if you already tipped the first time you went in for your session, you don’t have to tip for the touch-up as well.

Although, since the price for the lash fill will be a lot lower than the initial session (around 50% of the full set) the tip would be a lot smaller as well, so if you want to, you can add a small amount as a sign of appreciation to your lash tech.

Final Word

Tipping is a way of showing satisfaction to your lash tech for their work. After all, doing a full set of lash extensions, which lasts between 2-3 hours, requires a lot of patience and precision, as well as investing in learning that skill.

Therefore, if your lash tech really does a great job, they deserve a reward for their hard work and talent.

Of course, tipping isn’t the only way to express that satisfaction, but if you feel like they deserve it and you’re genuinely happy with the work they’ve done, adding a small tip on top can really make a difference for them.

But if you don’t feel like leaving a tip, other ways to show your gratitude are leaving an online review, or spreading the word about your lash tech by recommending them to your friends in real life or on social media.

Surely, every lash tech will appreciate this a lot.
