How Long Does a Lash Lift and Tint Last?

How Long Does a Lash Lift and Tint Last? - Average Longevity
⏱️ 4 min read

A lash lift is a great way to enhance your eyelashes in a lasting way, and if you add a lash tint to it, the effect is striking. Your lashes are uplifted and curved to open up your eyes, they’re darkened to appear fuller, and you don’t need any mascara for weeks (unless you really want to wear it, in which case, you can).

The lash lift is a more or less no-maintenance treatment, quick and simple, yet it gives relatively long-lasting results.

But just how long does a lash lift and tint last? Here’s the answer!

How Long Does a Lash Lift and Tint Last on Average?

In theory, the effects of lash lift and tint will last 4-6 weeks on average, meaning your lashes will stay curled for the longevity of the lash growth cycle, until they fall out. In practice, the answer is more complicated than that.

What we need to explain is the fact that the 2 effects of the lash lift and tint combo have different lifespans. Let’s look into each.

Longevity of the Lift

Technically, your lashes stay lifted and curled for around 6 weeks. Once a lash is chemically treated, curled and shaped, it will stay like that until it falls out.

However, it’s important to understand that, while a lash growth cycle does last 6 weeks (or even longer for some people), that is how long it takes for all the lashes in your lash line to get replaced with new ones. But each individual lash has its own growth cycle, and not all of them start to emerge from the skin, grow to their full length, and then fall out at the same time.

So lashes are replaced by new ones gradually, and you won’t have all your lifted lashes for the 6-8 weeks. But don’t worry, this process happens slowly and your lashes will look curled for weeks – the curl will noticeably relax after about 4 weeks.

Longevity of the Tint

The tint on your lashes lasts about a month. While the same principle does apply – you will lose the tinted lashes gradually as they are replaced by new ones – the tint can also fade from the lashes before they fall out.

The loss of the tint is less noticeable than the loss of the curl though, unless your lashes are very fair. Even if they are, it’s not like you’ll wake up with half your lashes blonde and the other half black! It all happens very gradually.

Can I Ruin My Lash Lift and Tint in Any Way?

A lash lift and tint is a one-off treatment that’s supposed to make your life easier – you don’t have to do anything special to your lashes and they’ll still look great for about 6 weeks.

However, there are certain activities and products that can damage the effects. Not drastically, but if you want to keep your lash lift in perfect condition for as long as possible, you should make some minor adjustments to your lifestyle.

Here’s what to do:

  • Avoid swimming in the pool, or try to keep your lashes dry if you do. Chlorine can fade the tint from your lashes and shorten how long does a lash lift and tint last.
  • Avoid exposing your lashes to sunlight as much as possible. The sun’s UV radiation fades the tint, so your lashes will go back to their natural color faster. Wear sunglasses when you’re outiside.
  • Avoid oil-based products as much as possible. Oils can lift the color from your lashes. This applies to oil-based cleansers, moisturizers, and even makeup – waterproof mascara formulas often contain oils.
Never use a lash curler! While mascara is okay to use, don’t try to curl your lashes further with a curler. It can ruin the curl.

Is There a Way to Prolong the Effects?

Apart from avoiding factors that can shorten how long does a lash lift and tint last, there’s not much you can do about prolonging its longevity apart from repeating the treatment once the effects disappear. You can’t really control your lash growth cycle.

How Often Can I Repeat the Lash Lift and Tint Treatment?

You can’t repeat the lash lift until all the lashes that have been chemically treated have fallen out and have been replaced with new ones, otherwise, they can be damaged.

So you can get a lash lift every 6 weeks, or better yet, every 8 weeks, just to be sure.

Final Note

While the lash lift+tint combo is super popular, you can get both lash tinting and lash lifting as separate services. If your lashes are dark to start with, the lash tint won’t really do much for them. You can just skip it and go for the lift alone to save a few bucks.
