1. Invest in High-Quality Tools

If we’re talking about the top tips for dermaplaning, we can’t stress enough that it all starts with a good dermaplaning tool. Low-quality ones will rust, break, and eventually require you to buy a new one.

However, stainless steel or reusable razors can last much longer and ensure not only your safety but also save you some money in the long run.

2. Prep Your Skin

Another one of our key tips for dermaplaning your face is that you have to think about proper prep. This includes cleaning your face thoroughly with a cleanser (but without any exfoliation – that’s why you’re dermaplaning).

After that, you should apply a face oil or serum to ensure that the tool glides smoothly across your skin and doesn’t accidentally end up making a cut. This method is actually called oilplaning, that we highly recommend for the first few tries.

3. Test Your Hand and Tools

8. Work in Sections

The best way to go about dermaplaning your entire face is to divide it into sections. This way, you’re making sure that every part of your face gets equal attention.

You can also ensure that you’re holding your skin taut on each of them, instead of holding one bit of skin and trying to work in large strokes.

9. Clean Your Blade

As you’re working in sections, it’s also essential that you clean your blade after each section. This doesn’t have to be a full-on deep clean every two minutes – just a swipe with a paper towel will do.

The point is to get the hair, dead skin cells, and oil off the blade so that it doesn’t lose its sharpness and contaminate the other parts of your face as you’re working on them.

10. Avoid Sensitive Areas

When you divide your face into sections, determine which ones you’ll need to avoid. For example, the area above the upper lip is okay to do, especially if you want to remove the peach fuzz. What If Dermaplaning Isn’t for Me?

The 2 main parts of dermaplaning are hair removal and exfoliation. For hair removal, you can use a safety razor, an epilator, or a good old pair of tweezers.
