Beauty Trends for 2024

As we wave goodbye to 2023, our curiosity about the biggest beauty trend in 2024 is only natural. This last year was a year defined by the clean girl aesthetic – but will it stick?

Or will the pendulum swing towards more expressive looks?

In this article, we’ll go over the 3 main aspects of beauty: makeup, skincare, and PMU, discussing which shades, techniques, or products will steal the spotlight in 2024.

But before we get into all that, let’s take a moment to revise which 2023 trends are staying and which ones are completely out.

Top Trends of 2023: What’s In & What’s Out?

In the last few years, a lot of the focus has shifted from makeup towards skincare – and that’s something that won’t change. We can all agree that this isn’t even really a trend and that healthy, glowing skin will always be in style.

However, minimalism is on its way out! Just one look at the Milan Fashion Week will tell you that bold colors are coming back, both in fashion and in makeup, but we’ll get into more detail about that later.

Finally, we can’t ignore the fact that nostalgia was one of the most influential emotions of 2023, with the 80s, 90s, and 00s all being equally trendy at the same time – and in terms of the biggest beauty trend 2024 is bound to continue down this road as well!

The Biggest Beauty Trend in 2024: Makeup

When talking about makeup in 2023, it seems that less is more was the main mantra.

As we move into 2024, this is about to change.

However, some elements of it will still stay present, as both glowy skin and expressive looks will take center stage.

Expressive Graphic Makeup

It’s usually the case with trends that a new one will be its predecessor’s opposite. So, in 2024, graphic looks will become more popular. This will manifest itself in the form of asymmetrical eyeshadow, eyeliner in unusual shapes, and bold lip colors.

Still, the 2020s are generally all about self-expression and acceptance.

Although minimalistic makeup may not be the hottest style right now, there will always be a place for it.

But if you’re looking to experiment with your style – we’ve got you covered! Check out these pencil and liquid eyeliners in metallic colors:

Skin-Centric Looks

Like we said – healthy, glowing skin is here to stay. Although more color will be used for makeup looks, the base will stay natural.

Foundation was slowly getting replaced with BB creams and tinted toners in 2023, so next year, we’ll see a continuation of that, with some TikTok trends even calling for completely foundation-less looks.

Again, this isn’t obligatory. But to be honest, it’ll probably do us all good to embrace and love our natural skin a little more.

Top PMU Beauty Trend in 2024

In terms of PMU, there’s no telling what will take over in 2024, as both pigment and machine technologies are evolving rapidly. However, what we CAN tell you is that these 2 trends below will definitely stay relevant in the upcoming year!

Inorganic Pigments Are Taking Centre-Stage

After the 2022 REACH regulations, we’ve been seeing more and more brands reformulating their formulas, trying to adapt to a changing market.

But other than just eliminating problematic ingredients, whole new lines of pigments are being launched – and they’re made to last shorter than the formulas we may be used to.

Cue – inogranics!

Iron-based pigments have a shorter lifespan, due to the larger size of their molecules when compared to organic ones. Here’s all about different pigment formulas if you want more insights.

In the past, in the early stages of the PMU industry, clients wanted their results to last as long as possible. After all, the services were heavily marketed as makeup tattoos.

But as time passed, it became obvious that PMU needs to be refreshed once in a while in order to stay attractive, and even removed if the results turn color and stay heavily saturated.

So the goal now is to provide a service that will give results that stay attractive throughout their lifespan – even if that lifespan is shorter.

And more and more pigment formulas promise to provide just that!

Machine Hair Strokes

Machine hair strokes, AKA nano brows, have absolutely dominated the PMU industry in 2023, and there are no signs of it stopping in 2024!

This technique is an offshoot of microblading.

In contrast to the hand-held precision of microblading, the machine method offers a systematic and more consistent approach, which better replicates the look of natural eyebrow hairs.

There are also differences in how long the pigment will last, with the machine’s controlled penetration ensuring longer-lasting results compared to the fading tendencies of microblading.

Still, none of this means that microblading will go out of style. It’s still going as strong as ever!

Freckle Tattoos

The freckle tattoo trend has gained a lot of popularity in 2023. As you probably already know, it’s a cosmetic tattoo aiming to mimic the appearance of natural freckles.

Most decide on getting them as a way to enhance their facial features and create a sun-kissed, youthful look. Freckle tattoos are typically applied in a scattered pattern across the nose and cheeks, offering a whimsical aesthetic.

In some cases, they can also be a great creative outlet and made to resemble star constellations, which are called astrofrecks, or done in fun shapes like stars or hearts.

This trend goes hand in hand with the trend of applying minimal to no foundation, as it would only cover up the freckles.

But be careful – this is a trend, meaning that it will pass at some point. Before making your final choice, make sure that this is something you really want & that you’ve done all your research.

The Biggest Skincare Trends in 2024

Finally, as clear and healthy skin becomes your best accessory, we can’t not talk about the newest motions in the world of skincare!

Stressed Skin & Adaptogens

In addition to the beauty industry’s ongoing evolution, there’s recently been a heightened awareness of stress and anxiety’s impact on the body.

While factors like diet, environment, and hormones affect the skin, stress emerges as another significant contributor.

Studies indicate that stress can trigger increased inflammation, breakouts, redness, dryness, oiliness fluctuations, and flare-ups of conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

This awareness aligns with the rise of “stressed skin” products featuring adaptogens — traditional stress-fighting ingredients like ashwagandha, reishi mushrooms, and ginseng in skincare formulations.

So, if your personal stress and anxieties are starting to manifest on the skin, these products might be able to help:

Patches Everywhere

Pimple patches became all the rage in 2023, with them even coming out in fun designs and getting totally normalized even outside the house.

In 2024, the trend of patches will continue to grow – as will their uses.

For example, wrinkle patches are already getting more recognition, but soon, we’ll be able to buy sunscreen patches, wellness patches, and even aromatherapy patches.

These are our top picks (for now – we’ll keep you posted as the year moves forward!) – check them out below:

Overarching Trends: -Core Aesthetics

If you’re on TikTok or Pinterest, you’ve noticed that Gen Z tends to add -core to seemingly random words.

This suffix means that there’s an aesthetic there, encompassing everything from makeup and fashion to hobbies and demeanor.

For example, one of the biggest aesthetics right now is ballet core.

The staple pieces include lots of pink, ballet flats, hair ribbons, and gentle blush. This is one of the first ‘cores’ to make it to the mainstream – so keep your eye out for 2024 trends coming out as sets rather than individual products or routines.
