The biggest trend in the lash world right now is the anime aka manga lashes look. This is a completely new style brought on and popularized by – you guessed it – TikTok.

The specific Japanese art style got super popular in the last 10 years or so, and now the trends are starting to bleed into fashion and makeup as well.

Even if you’re not a fan of anime or manga, this lash look is absolutely adorable! So, we’re here to tell you how you can replicate the look with 4 different methods, ranging from the most complex but long-lasting to the easiest. So, keep on reading and find the method that suits you best!

What Are Manga Lashes?

Like we already said, manga eyelashes are a specific style of lashes that are made to replicate the look you can see on a typical female anime or manga character.

Their aim is to make the eyes look more open and round and can look good on pretty much any eye shape since they can be modified.

Still, it’s good to keep in mind that, if your eyes are already naturally open & round, this look will over-exaggerate that feature, so you’ll need to balance out the look with some prominent lip makeup.

But, on the other hand, if your eyes are narrower, this lash style will make the whole face look more innocent.

How to Get the Anime Lashes Look

If you’re sold on the idea of anime lashes, let’s get into how you can get the look yourself!

The main characteristic that sets the anime style apart from the others is that spaced-out individual lash strands are visibly longer than the rest and look like spikes in the lashes.

There is also a lot of emphasis placed on the lower lash line with the same spiky pattern repeated. In essence, they’re pretty similar to doll lashes, but with the added unusual spikes that make the look really unique.

The look can be replicated with lash extensions, different types of falsies, and even regular makeup. Here’s how:

Manga Lash Extensions

The first method we’re going to talk about here is magna lash extensions. This is the most expensive method on the list and also the one that requires the most commitment.

But, it’s the most long-lasting and convenient – you’ll have manga lashes for weeks!

So, if you’re really into this look and 100% certain that you’ll love it – this is the right choice for you!

All you need to do is find a local lash technician whose work you like and book an appointment.

Keep in mind that this look is still relatively new and more popular among alternative subcultures, so it’s possible that not every salon will be able to provide this service.

Manga Strip Lashes

Applying strip lashes requires a little bit less effort than DIY-ing lash extensions, but it also takes a LOT less commitment. So, if you’re here to only try out the anime look (or want your eyes to look more dramatic for a special occasion), strip lashes are the way to go!

If you’ve decided that this is the best method for you, here are our recommendations for the best anime lashes. Check them out below!

If you’re new to the falsies game, let’s revise how to put them on:

  1. Measure & cut. Place the lash by your eye to check if it’s the right size. If not, just cut off the excess of the strip.
  2. Apply glue. Holding the lash in your fingers or a pair of tweezers, apply a thin layer of lash glue on the strip. The glue sometimes comes with the lashes, so make sure to check that when ordering a pair.
  3. Wait 15-20 seconds until the glue becomes tacky, or things could get really messy as the glue might smear.
  4. Put on the lashes. It’s easiest when you start at the inner corner and carefully align the rest of the strip just above your natural lash line.
  5. OPTIONAL: Blend your lashes and falsies together using 1-2 coats of mascara.

Magnetic Manga Lashes

There’s a simpler alternative to strip lashes – magnetic lashes. In this case, there’s no glue – just magnets, as the name suggests.

So, if you’re not into the hassle with eyelash glue, check out our top recommendations for great magnetic anime lashes from Amazon:

Here’s a list of best magnetic lashes in more natural styles if you like the idea of mess-free falsies.

Here’s how to put on magnetic manga lashes:

  1. Curl your lashes like you normally would.
  2. Apply a coat of mascara to add some extra volume, if you want to.
  3. Put on the top lashes as close to the lashes as possible.
  4. Put on the bottom lashes and make sure that the magnets click right.

Another way that magnetic lashes can be applied is if they come in a set with magnetic eyeliner. In that case, the lash strip will stick to the eyeliner and make the process even easier!

NOTE

When we talk about top and bottom lashes, we don’t mean lashes that go on the top & bottom lash line. With most magnetic lashes, there are 2 strips for top lashes – one that goes over your natural ones, and one that goes underneath them.

Can You Achieve Manga Lashes with Mascara?

Finally, the easiest (and cheapest) method of getting the anime lash look is with your regular mascara! To do this, you don’t need anything special – just any mascara you already have and a pair of tweezers.

Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Curl your lashes to give them more volume (have you tried a heated curler yet?).
  2. Apply a coat of mascara as per usual.
  3. Use tweezers to pinch them and create spikes. Make sure to only pinch the very ends of the lashes to avoid the risk of accidentally poking your eye. You can also use your fingers, but that’s a little trickier.
  4. Apply one more coat of mascara.
  5. Pinch again if you mess up the spikes with the additional layer of mascara.
  6. Repeat on the bottom lashes.

Now the longer your lashes are the more prominent your spikes will be, so adding a lash growth serum to your routine may be a good idea.
